Some of you may be wondering, why was this not posted last week on actual Valentine’s Day? There is a simple explanation for that, and that’s that our Valentine’s Day was spread out over an entire week.
Long story short: My boyfriend and I are currently doing long distance, which is not easy. We went over a month without seeing each other (I’m aware it is not that long), but as we typically live together, it was much harder than expected. For this reason, he has come to visit me for 10 days, where we treated everyday as Valentine’s Day. During this week it was also the anniversary of when we met, and 10 months of us being together. This made things that much more special for us but also added extra stress to make it as romantic as possible.
It is no secret that every couple wishes to be in Paris for the day of love. It was a surreal moment when I realized that was exactly our life, and I wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip away. In 7 days, we were able to plan so many different activities and it’s safe to say it was a great success. We were able to explore the city, but also create memorable experiences, and of course, surprise each other.
Paris is a city full of endless possibilities, especially for couples. This blog is not created only to tell my experience, but to also give ideas to all of you who are wanting to visit with your significant other.
February 10 – Romantic Rainy Walk
Of course, the first thing I had to do when he arrived was take him around to see Paris. Getting off at Palais Royal-Louvre metro stop, we walked from the Louvre to the Tour Eiffel. With our luck, it started raining really hard. Despite the cold and rain, it was a fun way to see Paris is in its natural state, while seeing its most prized possession. Of course, there was also the added fact that we got to see wild rabbits hopping around in the park.
February 11 – PSG Vs. Rennes
This was my Valentine’s Day gift to him, and probably the thing we were both most excited for. Ever since I arrived in Paris, I promised myself I would go watch a PSG game, and this perfect opportunity just presented itself. I bought the tickets only a couple days before going and both of us were extremely excited. On the day-of, we went to the Paris Saint German store on the Champs Elyse and of course bought Neymar and Messi scarves. I somehow managed to lay my hands on some great seats and we were able to enjoy the game to the fullest. And I just personally can’t believe I got to see Messi in real life. And my boyfriend, well… football fan that he is was just over the moon about watching the game and seeing them play.
February 12 – Paris by day, Dinner at night
This day was spent doing a tour around Paris, exploring La Marais. We had lunch at a local French Bistro (missing the name) with some yummy food. Of course, as one of the famous activities in La Marais, we went around thrift stores. Followed by flower stores, and even hitting up an Asian market. My boyfriend had never visited one and I thought I would have him try some drinks I love from Thailand. In the evening we met up with my friends at La Felicità, a very creative and really good Italian restaurant. We all had pizza and some beers and overall, a great night. Then, for those who still had some energy, we headed down to Bastille to get a few drinks at one of my favorite bars, Le Chantier Interdit.
February 13 – Michelin Star Dinner
This was a full surprise to me, as this was his Valentine’s Day gift to me. It took place the evening before simply because we already had made plans for Valentine’s Day dinner. The evening started off with him telling me not to dress overly fancy, just because he didn’t want to spoil the surprise. It’s fair to say we were very underdressed but definitely something we laughed about. The restaurant was called Le Violon D’Ingres. It’s the one restaurant I can honestly say everything was perfect. The location, decor, service, food, wine, everything amazing.
They gave us some delicious baguette with homemade butter to start off, while we ordered only main course and dessert. They also brought out these small appetizers which I’m still not sure what they were. All I know it that they were great. The main course was a delicious steak with fries, and for dessert… mille feuille and pistachio soufflé. I was honestly mind blown. At this point we were both so stuffed, but the service continues to not disappoint. They brough out two madeleines, two canelés, and two chocolate sweets. Along with this we had white wine and champagne.
February 14 – Valentine’s Day Seine Cruise
The day finally arrived. We kept it chill during the day and having a champagne cruise on the river Seine in the evening. The cruise was followed by a romantic dinner near the Louvre at restaurant Chez Claude. From the cruise we saw the Tour Eiffel, Notre Dame, beautiful views of the city, along with a glass of champagne. For dinner we were given a set menu for Valentine’s Day. This consisted of a tomato and mozzarella white truffle puss pastry, prawn risotto, and dark chocolate lava cake. We paired this with a bottle of white wine. It was a very lovely experience and I highly recommend this deal for future years. This was a deal offered by French Tourisme and it is likely they have it every year. Link here.
February 15 – Paris Aquarium
This was the last day of Valentine’s Day celebrations. We put this together very last minute when we were looking for something special to do. It was also one of the few days where I did not have any university classes and could do anything we wanted. We found the Paris Aquarium. The entry ticket price was €19,50, unfortunately the under 26-year-old rule does not apply here. Purchasing the tickets is very simple and you can find them here. Their tanks are absolutely beautiful and so are the fish. The main thing that actually grabbed by attention were the jelly fish. There are many species of jelly fish in this aquarium and watching them is mesmerizing.
This is all for this year’s Valentine’s Day celebrations in Paris. It’s still very surreal for me the fact that I got to spend this day here and let alone actually live here. This was a very special week for the two of us with endless opportunities and surprises.
I hope this gives all of you some ideas and inspiration of things to do in Paris, as a couple or not, on Valentine’s or any other given day. Please let me know in the comments anything you would add to this list or anything else we must try.
