The metaverse is a world full of opportunities where you can literally be and do whatever you want to. With this world come many opportunities for brands to showcase themselves and create unique possibilities for all users. This does not leave the fashion industry out.

You would be surprised to know how the fashion industry has implemented itself in the metaverse. Doing and creating things that we could not even image just a few years ago.

Metaverse Fashion Week

In March 2022, the metaverse hosted its first fashion week. Yea you read that correctly. Luxury brands took part in this event to convert 2D products into 3D experiences. You are more than welcome to buy any of the clothes showcased for your online character. There is also talk of a physical twin piece shipped to you for your real-life wardrobe.

Now, fashion week is not a simple fashion show, but the whole fashion week experience. With front row seats, exclusive after parties, and backstage opportunities.

Self Expression

The metaverse is a place to express your true self through your outfits and style. You can buy and create clothes for your avatar exactly how you want it. Of course, brands are included in this just as much. Creating innovating pieces and designs for immediate selling. As social media has already built a stigma around what the ideal “real” life looks like, in the metaverse you can do just that. Think about your favorite influencer who’s style you admire. Now, you can be just like them, just virtually.

Build Your Own Brand

In the metaverse, and even metaverse fashion week, you can create and start your company. Being able to bring your business and new designs to life and using new technology to do so.

This is not as simple as it sounds, however, it is said to have more growth opportunities now that it’s still so new, than to try and get success in the very competitive real world.

Gucci Garden

Amongst fashion shows and clothes, Gucci is a prime example of designer brands that have implemented and all-round experience in the metaverse. Gucci partnered up with Roblox, who also re-invented themselves in the metaverse, to release Gucci Gardens. It consists of an interactive virtual exhibit where upon entering, avatars become neutral mannequins. As they wander from room to room, the mannequins absorb the different elements of each exhibition. This innovative and unique exhibition is known to be a one-of-a-kind creation.

Louis: The Game

Louis Vuitton has completely stepped out of their usual routine to create a video game in the metaverse. It came out to celebrate the founder’s 200th birthday. The game follows Vivienne, the mascot created with the brand’s monogram. She wanders the virtual world to find collectible NFT candles. With each candle found, a new part of the story unlocks. There are a total of 30 NFTs, including 10 by Beeple, the artist whose digital collage sold at a Christie’s auction for $69.3 million.

Balenciaga

I’m sure this is no longer news to anyone. Balenciaga partnered up with Fortnite to create design skins for the players. Four skins were created which included, backpacks, pickaxe, and clothing. A Balenciaga-themed hub was created within the game, as well as a real-life clothing line. The hub consisted of a virtual Balenciaga store where players can buy cosmetics. Above the virtual store, there was an animated billboard to show the collection. The same billboard showed up in the real world in New York City, Tokyo, Seoul, and London.

These are just a couple examples of what the metaverse means for fashion. We can only expect to see more from all brands. There are no limits on the metaverse and with so much creativity already displayed, we are looking forward to see what comes out.
